Micki, Ryan, and Jack investigate a string of mysterious deaths and miraculous recoveries at a local hospital. The source is Dr. Stuart Goldman, a gifted surgeon who’s built a reputation as a “miracle worker.” He’s come into possession of a cursed antique: the scalpel once used by Jack the Ripper. The scalpel’s power is a cruel trade. The doctor can heal any patient, no matter how terminal, but only by taking the life of someone else with the blade. As more patients are inexplicably saved and other seemingly random people turn up dead, the trio realizes a cursed object is involved.
Things get personal when Jack Marshak is badly injured and needs surgery. Dr. Goldman is the only one who can save him, putting the doctor in a moral bind: use the scalpel to heal Jack, his enemy, and kill another innocent person in the process, or let Jack die and protect his own reputation and conscience. The episode becomes a tense test of ethics as Goldman weighs his Hippocratic Oath against the scalpel’s demands. Micki and Ryan must track down the cursed instrument and stop Goldman before the body count and the list of “miracles” grows any further.
