Doctor Who: Summary: Episodes 9 & 10 – “The Expedition” and “The Ordeal”

The group escapes the Daleks but realizes the Doctor left a vital component of the TARDIS, the fluid link, behind. To get it back, Ian convinces the pacifist Thals that they must fight the Daleks. In Episode 9, Ian, Barbara, and a Thal party set out on a dangerous expedition through mountains and caves to reach the city from the back. Episode 10, “The Ordeal,” follows their treacherous journey through caverns filled with pitfalls and a lake of mutation. They eventually infiltrate the Dalek city while the Doctor, Susan, and another Thal group create a diversion. The Daleks, meanwhile, are planning to increase radiation across Skaro to wipe out all Thal life. These episodes set up the final confrontation where the time travellers and Thals work together to stop the Daleks’ genocidal plan.
