Caleb Meer is a jerk and a dick. He insulted his friends to make sure that they would leave him and his mother to die on that distant planet or live together amidst war. He mistreated them when he knew he needed the most but his and his mother’s foolish pride was the loudspeaker in the room and they were stubborn.
The team eventually see through him but they made it off the planet and escaped onto the ship, something they would all regret as Meer and Caleb are just strays at the end of the day and to be saved by a starfleet doctor would make them ungrateful or mildly thankful. Very selfish people. I thought she was going to die but the writers were smart at this point and made her live and the Doctor himself said she will be fine, thank God.
Now Jay-Den and Tarima tried to rush into space to save them but were caught. Everyone made it but they now can’t leave their position in space because trouble is brewing and no one is certain of survival. That’s right, everyone has a giant bull’s eye on their backs. Lord help them!
